Hi guys, brought my son a 49cc west replica the other day. All great till yesterday i noticed a thin pipe near the carb just hanging down!
It started 1st time everytime but then was sort of trying to start but not firing up. (Lack of petrol) but whilst investigating i noticed this pipe just hanging around. Iv tried looking at videos and pictures but cant seem to find if it should just hang there or be inserted into the carb or whatever else.
Also when i very 1st started it up and the few times after it was great but the last couple of starts the bike started going as if the throttle was stuck on. Now i think i found the fix its the idle screw with the spring on. I havent touched it till i no for sure. Hence why im here.

Hope you guys can help me out

Hi rob. The pipe hanging down is an overflow pipe. If you get fuel running out of it then the float or needle is stuck.

The screw is for the idle adjustment. In for faster out for slower. Adjust it when the engine is warm.

Because it is Chinese you will be plagued with many little issues but all can be resolved fairly easily. The manual says to mix the fuel at 25:1 which is way to much do it at 50:1
Also get an ngk spark plug for a spare because the standard ones are crap.

If he enjoys it don't spend any money upgrading it instead save up for a cheap genuine bike as it will perform better and last much longer.

Thanks for reply, yea thats basically what he's looking into doing.
How much for a decent original bike. Something that aint gonna be too much of an headache

If you keep an eye out occasionally a fixer upper pops up on eBay or gumtree cheap. But for a tidy running Polini 910 or Blata elite which are the cheaper end of the scale 200 ish depending on spec.

Avoid B1 reps most people list them as genuine when they're not.

Excellent, i will be sure to come back to the site for some help on the new purchase.
I paid 100 for the 1 i got. Kinda feel ripped off now.

To be fair most people started on them. How old is your boy? Whereabouts are you?

He's still young. 9 nearly 10 and im west midlands.
Right another question. Iv just spent an hour trying to start the moto with no joy till i moved a thin piece of metal next to a white tap type of thing that sits horizontal. Was that the choke.? And is the white tap something to do with petrol? Iv never seen a choke like this before. (Only ever owned 1 other moto)
The piece of metal is shaped slightly like a ice lolly stick.

If the white tap is horizontal then the fuel is off. The choke lever is just to the left of it. From memory up is on. Check if your spark plug is wet or dry. Wet over fuelling or no spark. Dry no or not enough fuel

Unfortunately it is rare to have no issues with those cheap carbs

Sorry the tap is vertical not horizontal. And the lever is pull towards or away from you. When i pulled it towards me the bike started 1st time. Will i just leave the lever in this position or do i have to push it back towards centre of bike?

Im really sorry for the stupid questions but im one of these guys who likes to absorb as much info as physically possible. Plus my son loves learning too.

Have you got a pic of this lever?

I have tried uploading photo but not getting nowhere. Photobucket on android just keeps forcing close. Basicaly you can move it forwards towards centre of the bike or towards myself. It is directly left of the fuel tap. I am preety sure this is choke now though.
As ther isnt nothing else that it could be.

Not a problem.

I'm down in Essex, the only tracks I know of are whilton mill and stretton. Don't worry about turning up to a track day on it coz most people started on them.
