So this is how it was purchased:

I'm satisfied with the frame and the bodywork as it is although the frame has a few scuffs in the paintwork (maybe I'll get it powdercoated at some point) but will change/upgrade everything else as I go. I love stainless steel fixings so have started on those first of all. They also make everything look cleaner and shinier! The forks didn't come up great but they'll have to do. I can't afford to get them re-chromed and the bike will only be ridden/smashed up etc so they'll be fine! The front brake that I fitted although brand new was troublesome so I'll have to test it on the track. I might also replace the back caliper at some point and will replace the bolts in the front one with stainless when they arrive (currently on order).

I also had a spare set of GRC handlebars that I was saving for something else but got carried away and fitted them!!!
http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh171/the-cuttster/null_zps91c50117.jpg (http://s256.photobucket.com/user/the-cuttster/media/null_zps91c50117.jpg.html)

Overall as it's so old, the bike and frame is in good nick so I'm well happy with that. I've got to change the wheels and I've got a couple of spare sets of Pasini rims or I could go with Polini split rims (I just can't decide !!!) I've then got to source and engine and decent under pipe as the original is not too good!!! I have a water cooled motor that I might fit in it if I can sort out the pump location in a suitable position... If not It might have to be aircooled so I'll be after a spare motor!

I think I'll have to spray it black as I've mainly got red or black bikes but I'll see how it goes when it's built.
Hope you like it and I'll update as I go along (probably very slowly as it's in a queue of projects!!!).
Cheers
Cutts

I know what you mean about the second lease of life - The trouble is that the engines are worth nearly as much as the complete bikes (especially if they're Pasini mini's) so people pull the engines out for their RR's! I get left with the chassis' and feel that I've got to save them all!!!! A bit like us with the BMS's as well!!!

Most of the pasinis i have seen have the pump bolted to the clutch housing with a pinion drive :D

Sorry mate - no progress yet although I have sourced a vey nice shiny under belly proddie pipe so that should help! I keep threatening the wife that I'll be in the shed today but she keeps finding other things for me to do (like fencing!)

Is it a pasini pipe mate?

I think mine is....? - I'm not too sure to be honest! I wouldn't know the difference between pipes, unless someone tells me what it is I'm none the wiser!!! TBH I've not even test fitted it yet as my current project has been rebuilding a 910s with reed conversion and 6.2 pipe (just to see what it goes like!).

Now that you mention it I don't know if an overpipe will fit - I should have checked that out before spending wongo on an underpipe! I don't think the overpipe will fit if what everyone else says is right (historically everyone says it won't fit)

A over pipe cannot clear the top of tge engine mate

I thought that was the case - although this bike doesn't have a top mount for the engine. It's held in by the rear bolt and a horizontal bracket that attaches to the lower engine cases(I think!)
Normally the front top mount bar for the engine gets in the way and stpps the pipes fitting. I'm now gonna measure it all up!

Yeah i was thinking you could drop the top of the engine down abit so you could get the pipe over ill have to have a look at mine but mine has a top mount mate ill get some pics of mine up.buddy:)

don't waste any time on it mate - I should have a selection of different pipes that'll fit (I've also got a 4.2 underbelly pipe).
Thanks for the offer though and if I get stuck you'll be my "go to" guy!!!

There is a frame strengthening bar across between the frame sides but not an engine mount!

This is looking good Cutts.

I have a Passini question for anyone that can answer.....

Just mending some duff bits on a seat unit that I'm sending Alex and was going to fix the two mounting holes at the sides. They are quite deteriorated and I'm struggling to see what angle they sat on in the little recess the bolt head fit into. So one of two options as far as I can see:

1. The bolts when fitted sit perpendicular to the centre line of the bike so the recess for the bolt head wont be an equal depth all the way round in relation to the surface.

2. The bolts when fitted sit perpendicular to the surface of the seat unit, i.e. the mounts on the frame follow the contour of the seat unit/frame and dont point straight at each other (more like point forward a bit).

Does that make sense to anyone?

I think I get what you're saying - the frame sides are parallel but the seat unit is tapered so how does the seat unit fit without cracking it when the bolts are tightened...

I use rubber washers and then metal washers which takes up some of the difference.

Sorry got a bit swamped by emergency car repairs but back on this now.

Thanks cutts thats exactly what I'm on about. So the frame sides are parallel? Could you measure how wide please? one fixing to the other across the bike/distance between the mounting points on the seat unit inside.

Any pics of the seat unit would be smashing :radar:

I assume you mean the midi size NOT the mini...
I'll try and sort something this week if I get a chance cos I'm away next week.
PM me on Sunday if I haven't replied...

Well if the're different I guess yes the midi. But seriously dont worry about it unless you find yourself in the right place at the right time. I need to get this done really so will go badger Alex.

Hi cutts whitch pasini frames do.you have do.you have a 2 piece midi?

cuttsthedon
02-07-2014, 07:42 PM
Hi mate
I have:-
1 piece mini (black) project bike in bits
1 piece mini (chrome) - no engine
1 piece mini (chrome - damaged frame)
1 piece midi (silver)
2 piece mini (black and chrome)

I did have a 2 piece midi when I was quite new to minimotoing which was in mint condition but I couldn't get on with it so sold it! I regret it now as it was probably just tyres or settings or something - I should have persevered wih it!

Ok mate im always looking for a 2 piece midi you have quite a impressive collection there

cuttsthedon
02-07-2014, 08:40 PM
Not that impressive I'm afraid!
Only one is complete, one is missing an engine, one is a rolling chassis, one is a collection of bits and the last is just a damaged frame...
I'm working on them slowly though (when funds allow!)

What are the Minis like to ride?

cuttsthedon
02-07-2014, 11:31 PM
The two piece mini is tiny! It's even smaller than a Polini 910 which most people say is too small. I find the 910 really comfy after the Pasini! It gives me cramp after about 5 minutes.
I've not tried the midi yet but I'll report back once it's built and ridden (may be a while yet!)
